03.20.07 CitizenU’s 7Wonders of the World

The ancient Greeks identified the Seven Wonders of the World. They were:

The Pyramids of Giza (the only surviving wonder)
Colossus of Rhodes
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria
Statues of Zeus at Olympia
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

Filled with hubris, the New7Wonders Foundation has begun an internet campaign to cast ballots to update the list. Here are some of the new options:

Colosseum in Rome
Statue of Liberty
Kremlin and Red Square
Great Wall
Eiffel Tower

Vote here for the [new] Seven Wonders of the World.

CitizenU has as much hubris as anyone else. Here is our list of 7 Wonders:

1. In the U.S. anyone can grow up to be President.
2. We still use paper ballots.
3. The U.S. president is selected by the Electoral College.
4. We still do not televise oral arguments before the Supreme Court.
5. There is no serious debate over the coming insolvency of Social Security and Medicare.
6. Eisenhowers’ prescient warning regarding the military-industrial complex.
7. U.S. Constitution. The fact that we still debate this two hundred year old document speaks to the wonderment of both its words and principles. Any serious list of wonders must include the U.S. Constitution.

There is our list. What great wonders have we left off?

How about 527s? No doubt about it. Campaign finance loopholes will outlast the pyaramids.

That website was kind of a funny idea, but more of a scam. How could you promote such garbage?

I feel the one thing that was left out was social services provided by the government. In a country where everything is supposed to be equal, is the irony of how we tip the playing fields. Social programs such as welfare, medicaid, and affirmative actions, tip the field more than any other thing the government offers to all its citizens. I think we should centralize more towards Reaganomics and Hoover's Laissez faire policies for econimc policies.
