1.11.07: "Beach Babe" Obama

Senator Barack Obama is getting a quick taste of what it takes to run for president this week.
Besides making the rounds on the cable talk shows commenting about President Bush's planned "surge" into Baghdad, Obama was making a different type of news this week.
People Magazine featured Obama, along with Jessica Alba and Penelope Cruz, in its
"Beach Babes" photo layout, and let's just say it's more flattering than the pictures of Bill Clinton jogging in those short running shorts.
Regardless of what you think about the beach pics, everyone admits that news about Obama is HOT!
When the Washington Post recently discussed the political impact of Obama's use of cocaine as a youth, voters started buzzing. Although Obama had revealed this fact 11 years ago in his autobiography, everyday Americans found this "news" intriguing.
Obama contends that he is still weighing the positives and the negatives about a potential run for president. Certainly the erosion of privacy that comes with his newly found fame will make Obama pause.
While Obama, like every other prominent politician, knows how to conduct a good photo opportunity, Obama is quickly learning that serious presidential candidates must watch their conduct while being tracked by the opportunist photographers.
The paparazzi media is now on Obama's trail, and these are the guys who can make the everyday life of any celebrity look tawdry and reckless. With this type of lurking media coverage, Obama must contemplate how he will endure the treatment of the media if it "catches" Barack (a.k.a. St. Obama or Beach Babe Obama) in a less flattering light.

Intelligent, liberal, HOT (in more ways than one ;) ), and......happily married. Darn. But by being happily married with kids, he's not open to character attacks that everyday celebrities (like Brad and Angelina) are. He has that advantage of being a stable family member. It's like in "The American President": President Andrew Shepherd had 60%+ approval rating, a liberal ideology, and was on the verge of a re-election campaign for President. But he had the disadvantage of being a single parent. Because once he started going out with a woman, he was open to character attacks. Obama doesn't have to deal with that. People Magazine can take as many pictures of him without his shirt (and I'd be all for it), but as long as he stays faithful, they won't have much to talk about.
that is not pretty picture
