2/1: Alito sweeps CitizenU. Awards!

In honor of CitizenU's 100th post, we would like to hand out our annual SOTU awards (Pocket Constitutions instead of Oscar statuettes, of course!)
CitizenU's Academy would like to thank all the nominees for their fine work, but we could only give special recognition to a few. And the winners are......
Best Picture: Alito in the House! The best part of Bush’s SOTU rubbing the Dem’s noses in the fact that Alito was sworn in as USSC justice earlier in the afternoon.
Best Director: Howard Dean steals it from Karl Rove. Asking Gov. Tim Kaine to give the Democratic response. (Having a Southern Democratic Governor give a conservative speech is always a winner.)
Best Actor in a Leading Role: Alito
Best Actress in a Leading Role: Hillary...her smirks will play well in the 2008 Iowa Caucus.
Best Actor in a Suporting Role: Chief Justice John Roberts...yet another symbol of what Bush actually got accomplished even with low political capital in 2005.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Was the adopted bomb dog male or female? Who cares....it's a winner!
Best Original Screenplay: Bush discussing the Line Item Veto. (It’s orginal even though he left off the word "Amendment.")
Best Adapted Screenplay: Gov. Kaine dusting off an old Ronald Reagan speech.
Best Foreign Language Film: Cindy Sheehan arrested outside the Capitol for inaudible anti-war ranting.
Best Original Score: Jesse Jackson Jr. gets the best seat along the aisle, again!
Best Animated Feature: Hillary’s smirk eeks out Kennedy appearing to be awake.
Best Costume Design: Alito in the robe.
Best make up: Jim Nichols, Secretary of Veterans Affairs was supposedly absent from the House. But look at Cheney a little more closely. His energy and liveliness are dead give-a-ways. Can you say Secretary Jim Nicols in disguise?!?
Best Special Effects: Hands down....Bush’s teleprompter wins again!

The Secretary of Veterans' Affairs is actually Jim Nicholson.
Funny story too...I called the White House comment line to ask about the whole line-item veto thing. I was told "Congress controls the purse-strings and they've never done this before. I don't know why they would do it now". After I provided all of the information about how they have and the Supreme Court case, I was told "We'll see about that".
It's comforting to have people so on top of the issues answering the phones at the White House.
I thought it both surprsing and interesting that Bush would bring that up.(The Line Item Veto AMENDMENT) But I especially enjoyed the shots of Hilary Clinton smirking. Those amused me. But all in all, I thought this a very vanilla SOTU speech.
Peace,
Stevo
Nice cartoon by the way.

Nah ah. Best costume design is women in red. Whoever coordinated that gets props...I mean, pocket Constituions.
And really, both Sheehan and the Republican's wife should have been allowed to wear their T-shirts. I mean, maybe the T-shirts weren't appropriate in that it seems one is supposed to dress nicely for this event, but nothing was going to happen because they wore those shirts. Freedom of expression, and considering at least half of the people in the chamber agreed with one woman or the other, they would have gotten a lot of support.
I have to ask: where was the teleprompter??
Exactly.
Teleprompters for the State of the Union (and most other public addresses) are located to the left and right of the President. They appear to be clear pieces of plastic or glass supported by a black rod and come roughly to chest level. This allows the President to turn and look at the audience without forgetting his lines and the audience to clearly see the President.

There you can see them on the left and right sides of the picture.
