1/5/2006: A Discussion with Barack

The Blog received an unexpected and welcomed phone call from Senator Barack Obama. The following is the actual transcript of that conversation:
Phone Rings at 6:27 p.m. (CST)
C.U.: Hello?
Barack: Hello, this is Senator Barack Obama.
C.U.: Hello, Senator.
Barack: I'm on my way to Iraq and wanted to thank you and the students of Stevenson High School for sending all of these cards to our troops overseas. It's quite impressive.
C.U.: Well, Senator, we have to say this was one of the best projects that we have been a part of during our teaching careers. We hope you read some of them because their messages of respect and admiration for our troops is overwhelming.
Barack: Just wanted to call to send my thanks.
C.U.: Anytime. Also, we want to personally invite to to Stevenson High School, which we think is the best high school in the state of Illinois.
Barack: I appreciate the invitation, but I can't give you my opinion about ranking high schools. That might get me in trouble with the voters.
C.U.: Thanks, again, for calling and best of luck for a successful trip!

I spoke with a friend of mine who's in politics in West Virginia. They expect a state investigation more than a federal, and it will mostly be done by regulatory agencies. There may be a Senate investigation, but at this point, it's too soon to tell. Just keeping everyone updated.
Next time he calls, tell him I have an idea for a campaign song for him to the tune of "I am a rock, I am an island" by Simon and Garfunkel. The chorus starts with, "I am Barack..."--it's really a great motivational song, they can play it as he walks up to platforms to give speeches. Would I get royalties for this idea?

I think it is so cool that we can communicate this and some many other ways with not only our elected officals but anybody. Thanks for giving us at Stevenson this oppertunity to send letters to the troops.
