11/4: Texas fold 'em

A.C.: With all the talk of whether Karl Rove should leave, why have we forgotten about Chief of Staff Andrew Card? How can he skate free given all of the bad publicity of the last 60 days?

D.L.: A Chief of Staff has not been employed this long since the Truman administration.

E.T.: How did W find him?

D.L.: Card was H.W.'s deputy chief of staff so he's been coordinating Bush White Houses for nearly 9 years.

A.C.: I hate to say it, but W needs to implement the Clinton model. Clinton changed his Chief of Staff for every phase of his terms. When the emphasis was restoring order to a chaotic White House, he hired David Gergen as a deputy Chief of Staff because he had worked in the Reagan White House. When the emphasis was on budget negotiations, he brought in business guru Erskine Bowles.

D.L.: You've got to replace the cut flowers to keep the place smelling fresh. No matter how well intentioned W's inner circle might be, hubris is hard to avoid when you've been consulting the president for 5 years.

P.S.: CitizenU is proud to present our first attempt at podcasting. Congress.wav is our attempt to bring the focus of political science back to the key vocabulary of government. Let us know what you think!

Well done! My mum says you have a coached voice, Mr. Speaker...I guess it's because you're from Minnesota.

It was... interesting. Is "Mr. Speaker" speaking too close to the mike or something? Informative nonetheless. You should just tape a class discussion and edit it up. Now that's entertainment. <-- This is why I don't leave too many comments.

A good definition, yet kind of boring. Our discussion last year about cup and saucer was a lot more interesting. I agree with Pang, except don't edit the class discussions.

Hey, about the France riots: I saw a news report on CNN. I have no idea what the riots are about, 'cause they're only talking about the "chaos" and "destruction" and "angry youths".

News programs frustrate me.

Read the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk
It gives a lot more info about world events than CNN.

Love the podcast, gentlemen.

Home musician trick: Mr. Larsen, if you read your script through a panty-hose you'll soften those p's somewhat. Now...where ARE those pany-hose...?
