10/27: Put it on the Board, She Gone!

V.L.: I predicted this a month ago.
A.C.: Yeah, the White Sox really pulled a stunner this season. What a team!
V.L.: Get real, I'm talking about the removal of Harriet Miers name as U.S.S.C. nominee.
E.T.: Who will Bush pick as the next nominee?
N.H.: The Rev. Pat Robertson
A.C.: He'd risk perjuring himself when the Senate asks who he would assassinate. How about Ozzie Guillen?
P.M.: Ratings would go through the roof during Ozzie's Senate hearing. Can you imagine Ozzie giving his opinion on Roe v. Wade!?! Would he bring Bobby Jenks in to close if the questions got tough? What kind of hand gestures would Ozzie use when Ted Kennedy questions him?
D.L.: Bush now risks having the second nominee rejected. Nixon faced this same problem when two of his nominees were rejected. With W's 2nd term popularity waning, the Democrats are set for a fight if Bush picks the heavy conservative judge that right-wing Republicans are demanding.
V.L.: How about Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez?
D.L.: That's the problem with Miers' rationale for leaving. Her contention is that the Senate wanted her to answer too many questions about her legal conversations with the President. The White House wants to protect these conversations under Executive Privilege. The same thing would happen if Gonzalez got the nomination.
N.H.: The Republican Right would never accept Gonzalez. He's too moderate.
A.C.: Speaking of Latin American All Stars, how about Freddy Garcia throwing 7 innings of shutout ball for the White Sox?!?
D.L.: The only shutout that matters today, is Bush whiffing on the Miers nomination. And now the White House is trying to distract from tomorrow's indictment story.
A.C.: Come on...let's talk Sox.
D.L.: How can you think baseball with all the big news today?
A.C.: I'm starting to think W announced the Miers news today to knock the White Sox championship off the front page. It makes sense. W's parents are humiliated rooting for the Astros at Game 4, and he steals the Sox thunder by announcing Miers withdrawal. Yet, again, the White Sox get no respect from the media or the White House.
P.M.: So much for a World Championship making White Sox fans less paranoid about a lack of attention!

Despite all the big news, Im with AC on this one. Although it was a sweep, each game was close and provided some great World Series memories for a city with almost none. From Konerko's grand slam to Podsednik's and Geoff Blum's home runs, the World Series is full of memories Chicago won't forget for a long time. Miers is big news, Im not questioning that, but we've been hearing about Supreme Court nominees since the end of summer and will continue to since Miers withdrew her nomination. Despite all the negative news and partisan fighting in the media, I find it refreshing to hear about something good happening in Chicago. A Chicago team has finally won a World Series, and now it's time to revel in that glory.
I'm sorry but how is Alberto Gonzales "too moderate"? Isn't this the guy who said that the Geneva Convention is quaint and can be ignored. If he becomes an ASCJ that would kill America's credibility. WE could never chastize another nation for not keeping agreements ever again.(Think Iraq, Korea, maybe China, Iran)

Yeah, White Sox for me too. Except I'm not a fan, I mean it's great that they've won a World Series, but let's get serious for a second.
I believe that the White Sox fit into a perfect role as subordinates to the Chicago Cubs, in every stretch of the imagination, in Chicago. I can back my theory up as well.
An avid White Sox fan approached me to rub the fact that his team is getting a parade. Then he boasted about the parade route, basically telling me that it will circle Wrigley Field several times. And what's more is that the first float will be led by a goat.
So the White Sox win the World Series, and what is their first response? Rub it in the faces of Cubs fans. I contend that this reaction was psychological. They have to try to use this World Series as support for their ongoing struggle to keep-up with the Cubs.
It is important to note, however, that this struggle has more to do with jersey colors and attractions in Wrigleyville than it does a baseball diamond. It is obvious that the Chicago Cubs are a superior baseball franchise to the Sox, especially considering the simple fact of fan base.
And most importantly, a World Series will do nothing to bring the White Sox to the front of Chicagoans hearts.
Now, if the Cardinals won a World Series, it'd be a different story...
But hey, would the blog be interested in tackling the issue of zero tolerance, as displayed in California recently? (An honor roll student was immediately expelled for bringing a box-knife to school, which she accidentally forgot to remove from her pocket the night before at work).
And what about the war in Iran, I mean Iraq. Could this President justify another military action? [Well, I guess he didn't have to justify the first one, so nevermind.]
Yea, well when the Cubs made it to the playoffs, I remember tons of fans rubbing it in, even after they lost. Blah blah blah one play cost them a trip to the World Series. I'm sorry, but one play does not lose a series. It's complete teamwork, as seen by the way the run last night was scored. It's time for some Sox glory.
As for more coverage of Miers and less of the Sox: I had to take a newspaper before lunch today because I was afraid Allen Hall would run out of Tribunes...and it did by 11:30. That never happens. So either college kids are becoming more politically aware, or the 100 or so Sox fans in the main lounge watching the game last night wanted a copy of the huge front page picture of the Sox winning. Bush's announcement didn't change the focus of Sox fans, and that's what really counts.
What would happen if Israel attacked Iran? You know, citing self-defense and all. I mean, I would be pretty nervous if a country who called for the US's destruction was developing nuclear power. A country that could actually hit us.
I agree with AF: I don't see how Gonzales is too moderate. He supports the USA PATRIOT Act. All of it.
Could Owen be next? Scary thought...I mean, conservatives would like her, but the Dems would never allow a vote. I could see Clement--she's definitely more moderate, I think more like O'Connor. Jones is also a possibility...but also a scary thought. Oh well.

Interesting, no?

Umm... keep up with what? There hasn't been much to keep up with in the past 97 years.
