9/15: Kabuki or Karaoke

A.C.: Was Senator Biden unfair when he described the Roberts hearning as a kabuki dance?

D.L.; No one even know what kabuki is. Stick with the tango metaphor. He maybe confirmed, but he'll be dancing alone.

A.C.: He's not singing Scalia or Thomas songs in this karaoke bar. GOP Senators have to worry about his ad-libs that seem to make him look ad-liberal.

D.L.: The GOP is still wondering if he'll be singing Sou-Sou-Souter.

A.C.: That's the worst Phil Collins joke I've ever heard.

P.M.: It's the only Phil Collins joke I've ever heard.

A.C.: What has cemented in your mind that he's a conservative.

V.L.: He's at least describing a judicial philosphy that is grounded in the Constiution rather than some vision.

A.C.: Would Thomas be the Mili Vanilli of the Court?

D.L.: Duplicating Scalia's thought.

V.L.: Totally disagree...this guy doesn't even recognize incorporation --making the Bill of Rights apply to state governments.

D.L.: Roberts is more like Ashlee Simpson. He came out on stage to perform and when the music came on he ended up doing a strange dance.

A.C.: It's a more like the SAFETY Dance. He is brilliant, but knows how to win the game.

D.L.: He's no Ashford + Simpson (an obscure reference to ther hit single "Solid, like a Rock."

My parents think that I should go into political science since I enjoy it so much, but I've figured out why I can't. If someone asked me about Roe v. Wade or FISA and how I would rule on those issues, I would let it all out. There would be no, "The case will probably come before the Court in the future, so I won't make my decision now" comments. Instead it would be: "Of course I would rule Roe v. Wade constitutional. You're crazy in even suggesting that it isn't." While I would like to see court nominees answer in my fashion, apparently they aren't suppose to. So props to Roberts for following the confirmation hearing rules.

We get it, it’s all about abortion. I'm convinced that all your students have had enough Roberts talk, he’s not exciting nor are his hearings. Before the first day of questions, Ted Kennedy even congratulated the man on becoming the highest Justice in the nation. I also have an impression that this is a right leaning blog, as most liberals/humanitarians are more concerned with Bush's quagmire in Iraq and at home (not to mention the victims).

Joke about Phil Collins and immediately you're a conservative. Is that the way it goes?

Are you kidding??? I'm pro gay marriage, pro choice, pro socialist healthcare....don't call this blog conservative....well, except of course for some of the teachers and probably quite a few of the students...but many of us here are liberal

Yes, and even at times it can be left-leaning!

I actually enjoyed the bit of the confirmation hearing I watched. And I'd consider this a conservative blog, but I'd also consider it a fair blog. If you've got your own views, have adequate knowledge on them, and can argue them, you can go ahead and do that on the blog. No matter what my stance is on an issue, I always feel more informed after reading the blog. As for Bush's mistakes... they've been discussed here and in class. He made a great speech last night. Give the man some credit.
