9/1: W-The Bad Boy Scout?

A.C.: What's your take on these stories that Bush cut the budget for the New Orleans levee system while spending so much on Iraq? Will Bush take the blame for being underprepared?

N.H.: It's a moot point. The levee that broke was the new one. New Orleans wanted money to upgrade the old levee that ended up holding.

A.C.: But in politics, perception is reality.

D.L.: The budget process is much more complicated. Rumsfield didn't come into a room with Cheney and say let's cut this levee to pay for Humvee armor.

A.C.: Every state makes budget requests that get rejected. But the image will still be that Iraq is a diverting resources which could have been used after Katrina. How many Louisiana National Guard members are in Iraq?

D.L.: Don't get me wrong. Bush is going to take some serious heat. $30 billion clean up of Katrina = one month in Iraq.

N.H.: What if the damage and death isn't as bad as expected? Will Bush get any credit?

A.C.: Not a chance. The GOP could pay a hefty price in next November's congresional elections if the war is used against them in terms of oil costs and Katrina damage. Of course that hinges on the Democrats being able to speak with one national voice. DNC Chair Howard Dean could easily mess that one up. As governor of Vermont, the worst natural disaster he handled was a maple syrup spill...and he slipped.

Top 5 Superheroes needed at this time--

E.T.: The Incredible Hulk could rip the roof off the Superdome and plug the levee system.

P.M.: Superman. He'd build an irrigation ditch to the Grand Canyon.

N.H.: Paul Bunyon and Babe the Blue Ox. Create lakes to divert water.

A.C.: Aqua Man. He can rescue the stranded and talk to the water mocassins.

(P.M.: Aqua Man is the worst choice possible since he would only react to problems instead of utilizing proactive solutions. Plus he can't talk to reptiles.)

D.L.: With floods and Bush's popularity in flames, Moses is definitely your guy.

Noah should be one of the top five superheros. He could of helped build the first floating projects.

I agree that the American people will see that the Iraq war is diverting American resources. This natural disaster is just going to make an unpopular war even worse.

I say Green Lantern. His abilities to create objects from the energy of his ring could make a plug for the levees, and also a giant bucket for the water.

P.S.: Noah and Moses are not superheroes (fitting the definition), though they may be considered heroes.

P.P.S.: Aquaman?!? Get serious.

I would choose Flash Gordon. Give him 14 hours and everything would be back to normal. Plus, he's got his own Queen song.

I've gotta go with Wonder Woman - we need some diversity among our superheroes.... :)

At this point, maybe the American public will be smart enough to realize that the cost on paper of building up a levee is not the only issue they should be basing their judgement of the current administration on. We knew that the Hurricane was coming, we have to ask ourselves why is it that there wasn't a mandatorey evacuation? Where all of those trucks and hodpital ships before to get people out? Why wasnt there a plan as to where these people were going to go after? Where is the military? Where are those soldiers sworn in to protect American lives? Why did an address by our president come not only after the fact, but 2 days after the fact with nothing but a hopeless list of vehicles that would attempt to get across the bridges that were flooded at the time? And even if it was the reponsibility of Louisianna to evacuate and plan safely, Why wasn't the administration there every step of the way, monitoring and helping out? Why were the prisons left? Why wasn't our president biting his nails, watching every step of the way instead of playing golf at a fundraiser in Arizona? We had all of the resources, all of the technology, all of the information...and what? People died ...this was a national tragedy and the only difference between this and September 11th is that Carl Rove isnt around to put a positive spin on it. I don't see how the most patriotic country in the world can't realize that...

Ahahaha I agree, Bush getting credit for what? Has he ever got credit for anything? Bush is the President of the Untied States, but when it comes to solving problems….well, that is another story. I think that the damage that has been done is going to take allot of time and money to fix, so the only credit that Bush will be receiving is the achievement of raising everyone’s taxes. That tax money that he gave back last year could have been saved for this problem so, no matter what Bush is going to be faced with some sort of problem, from his past actions.

What about Captain Planet? This is like one of the only times he can make himself useful along with his hip teen sidekicks.

Am I the only one getting tired of Bush getting ripped on? He just picked a bad time to be president, I really wounder what people would say about him if he was elected during the Clinton years.

Don't call on me to fix this mess, all I can do is talk to fish and breathe underwater. And what exactly is a "water moccassin?"

To the anonymus blogger who left a rant asking basically why is this such a disaster.... You have to realize that they tried, but where exactly do you put a population of a prison? Or a hospital? It isn't that easy on short notice (EX. less than a week). Don't quote me on this, but wasn't New Orleans counting on the Levee's standing? You have to realize that accidents happen, no matter how prepared you are. And BTW, before you blame Bush, understand that he isn't the gov. of Louisiana. He really has no say in preparing for this. Did the gov. of Louisiana make some mistakes? Yes, but you know what, it doesn't really matter because crap happens, and the only thing there is to do now is to go out and save as many as you can. Last comment- spellcheck, it is hard to take any mispelled comments seriously.
